1.7 million tulips will be on display in Asia’s largest tulip garden
SRINAGAR, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) — Asia’s largest tulip garden in Srinagar will display 1.7 million bulbs, including six new varieties imported from the Netherlands, next year, officials said.
Assistant Floriculture Officer of Tulip Garden Asif Ahmed told UNI that they have almost completed planting of bulbs and cumulatively 1.7 million bulbs will be displayed in the garden.
He said it would be a million more than last year.
He said: “This year, we introduced six new varieties of tulips imported from the Netherlands, and this will be an addition to the 68 varieties that were displayed last year.”
He said that the tulip garden will be attractive next year, and we expect a large number of people to visit it, and we hope that it will exceed the previous record of 3.65 thousand feet.
Regarding the expansion of the tulip garden, he said that the sakura garden is about to be completed near the tulip garden, and its cultivation will begin in the coming years.
“We have developed a large area of greenery on about 50 kanals of land as well as for visitors to the park this year,” Asif said, adding that it will “provide a scintillating experience to the visiting tourists while sitting in the park.” “.
He said that the necessary civil works in the park have already been completed.
There are more than 100 people, including temporary workers and permanent gardeners, who look after the garden.
He said that planting tulip bulbs will begin on November 15 onwards. He added: “Fortunately, the weather remained favorable, and we completed the work on time.”
The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar, the largest tulip garden in Asia, extends over an area of about 30 hectares (74 acres). Located in the foothills of the Zabarwan mountain range, the park was built on sloping terraced land consisting of seven terraces with a general view of Dal Lake.
The park is likely to open anytime after March 20 next year, depending on the temperature.
The Tulip Garden entered the World Book of Records in London in April for being the most beautiful and largest in Asia.
Over the past few years, the Tulip Garden has been attracting a large number of tourists from all over the world.
A record number of over 3.65 lakh tourists visited the park this year, surpassing all previous records. (agencies)
