A vibrant celebration of spring and sustainability
As the cold of winter subsides, New Delhi wakes up to a vibrant kaleidoscope of colours, heralding the arrival of spring. From February 10 to 21, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is hosting the much-awaited Tulip Festival, which transforms the cityscape into a floral wonderland.
The second edition of the Tulip Festival winds through the parks, roundabouts and sidewalks of Lutyens Delhi, with nearly 200,000 tulip lights of different colors dotting the landscape. The event kicks off on the meadows of picturesque Shanti Path in Chanakyapuri, where a 1.5-kilometre stretch of tulips in myriad colors – white, yellow, red, pink, orange, purple, black, yellow and red – welcomes visitors on an enchanted journey. In an effort to promote sustainable practices, the National Disaster Management Center preserved about 50% of tulip bulbs from last year’s crop. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce production costs for future festivals while promoting a culture of environmental awareness.
In addition, the Council plans to plant other seasonal flowers such as sage, petunias, anthurium, phlox, verbena and marigold to ensure a lively display throughout the spring. Following the Tulip Festival, the National Center of Meteorology will host a flower festival showcasing these flowers in roundabouts, parks and gardens throughout the city.
