Amaryllis are easy to grow from seed

Dear Roger: My amaryllis had the most blooms ever this year. It grows in the ground. Now the flowers have large seed pods.

Can seeds be planted and how? Thanks — Seed Dreamer

Dear dreamer: Amaryllis are easy to grow from seed. Use a good seed starting mix, not one that contains bark.

I recently found a good seed mix at Bell’s Seed Store on Russell Street in Fayetteville.

You can make your own planting mix from perlite, sphagnum peat and sterilized sand, using four parts peat and one part each sand and perlite, a lightweight form of volcanic material that floats in water.
