Our sweet mother/nana, grandmother and friend, Marian Quast Rodman (age 90), passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 6, 2023 in Sandy, Utah surrounded by family.

She was born May 21, 1933, in Burley, to Walter Freed and Grace Kleon Quast. She married the love of her life, Joseph Philip Rodman, on November 27, 1953, in Burleigh, ID. They are the parents of two children: William (Rose Mary) and Jean Brewer (Edward); and six grandchildren: Jessica, Lee Ann, William (William and Louise), Morgan, Billy and Madison (Jean and Edward). Marianne also has seven grandchildren.

Marian and Joe own and operate Whittier’s Market also known locally as the Penny Candy Shop. Marian was a talented florist and loved decorating for the holidays. Marian and Joe have owned and operated Kaysville Flowers for a number of years. Marianne later became a regional executive for the floral division at Skaggs/Alpha Beta. She loved her job but gave it up to move to St. George to start a children’s clothing business with her husband, Joe. Marian and Joe loved watching Utah Jazz games together and discussing games with her brother and sister-in-law Harold and Sharon Quast. Marian loved to bake. They were known for their oatmeal raisin and cherry-filled cookies. She loved sharing it with family, friends, neighbors and her doctors.

Marian and Joe did it all together, working, playing golf, building and selling homes, but their favorite activity was selling their house and exploring the United States in their RV for seven years. They traveled back and forth from Mississippi to Idaho with frequent stays in Arizona, Texas, and Utah.

Marian was preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters and a daughter-in-law, all of whom she loved dearly. Howard Mitchell (Reva), Keith Mitchell, Walter F. “Junior” Kwast (Jonelle), Gary Kwast and Harold Kwast (Sharon); three sisters, Beth Jenkins (Jonnie), Joan Wilkins (Theron), and Verlan Hronek (Carl) and daughter-in-law Louise Cecil Rodman. Marian is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her sister Maxine Connelly (Raymond).

The family extends their sincere appreciation to all of their doctors, Rocky Mountain Hospice and caregivers at Cresent Heights Senior Living. You were all true professionals and full of compassion.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 29, at Larkin Sunset Gardens located at 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, Utah.
