New light show next winter
The Botanical Garden in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park will be illuminated with winter lights next year under a request for proposals.

A partnership between the city’s Recreation and Parks Department and the nonprofit San Francisco Botanical Garden Society accepted contractor proposals for the installation from Oct. 12 to Nov. 15. Golden Gate Park plans to select a vendor by the end of the month, according to its request for proposal.
“Our goal is to develop a unique winter lights installation that embodies the parks mission and brand and is authentic to our local community,” according to its website. “We hope to create a magical atmosphere that captivates visitors of all ages and invites them to explore the beauty of the gardens after hours.”

The organization is accepting proposals for lighting installations at the San Francisco Botanical Garden, with the possibility of including the Japanese Tea Garden and Flower Institute.

Golden Gate Gardens expects tickets to cost $28 to $40 each, on the upper end of the Bay Area light show price spectrum.

Once a contractor is selected, city staff will review the proposal to ensure it limits potential disturbances to wildlife, according to Golden Gate Park.
