Mandarin Oriental Singapore reopens after a refresh
I have always loved MO Singapore and finally stayed there a year ago but found it very outdated. Fortunately, it’s just been updated and looks great!
The rooms look very different from the dark wood and old 90’s black marble from before. The decoration was based on blurring the boundaries between inside and outside. Guest rooms take cues from the views from the windows – speckled batik patterns and cooler color combinations for rooms facing Marina Bay, while rooms overlooking the South China Sea have warmer tones to represent the morning sun. The city-facing rooms reflect Singapore’s greenery through botanical prints, bringing the outside in.
If you are interested in booking a hotel in MO, it is worth checking out with our partners GTC as they can offer additional perks
- Upgrade is based on availability at time of check-in
- Continental breakfast for two daily
There’s also MO Fans, which allows you to choose from a range of perks.
The London Peninsula is open
Last week saw the Peninsula finally open in London. The hotel is located next to The Lanesborough on Hyde Park Corner.

I checked the prices and in January, prices start from £1,300 per night. This is much higher than even the inflated prices in London, where rooms in the best hotels typically range between £800 and £1,000 per night. I can only hope that with a number of new luxury hotels opening in London, such as two more Mandarin Oriental and Raffles, this will eventually bring prices down to more reasonable levels.
The property is centered around an off-street courtyard featuring climbing jasmine trees, wisteria vines and two 120-year-old Japanese maples (the oldest trees of their kind in Europe). This cobblestone forecourt allows guests to arrive in style in one of the hotel’s impressive vehicles – which include Rolls-Royce Phantom IIs, hybrid Bentley Bentaygas, a vintage 1960 Austin electrified taxi, and a restored 1935 Rolls-Royce Phantom Sedanca de Ville. .
