ONEONTA – Rebecca “Becky” Gillette Myers, 79, passed away on November 17, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Becky was born April 16, 1944, in Stamford, at Bathgate Hospital, daughter of the late Griffin A. Becky. and Francis J. (McClelland) Brooks.
She graduated from Stamford Center School in 1962 and the Otsego Area School of Practical Nursing. She had fond memories of growing up on a poultry farm in Stamford and also worked hard with her parents in establishing their barbecue restaurant. She was working in New York City as a ticket agent for Mohawk Airlines. In later years she earned her LPN and worked in the nursing profession.
She enjoyed cooking, crafts, golf, especially gardening, and researching family genealogy. She loved the time she spent with family and special friends.
Becky was predeceased by her first husband, Richard Wayne Gillette, who died at the age of 39 on June 16, 1978, in North Syracuse. They had three children.
Becky married Richard Warren Myers on April 11, 1986 in Oneonta. Becky and Rich enjoyed many winters in Florida and also at their home with friends and neighbors in Oneonta.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Myers; three children, Kimberly A. and her husband, Dean Marble, Griffin W. and his wife, Dawn Gillette, and Brian L. his wife, Susan Gillette; grandchildren Carlene and husband David Mellor, Caitlin Marble, Kinsey and Brandon Gillette, Kendall and Peyton Gillette; stepchildren Todd Myers, who died in 2020, Carrie and his wife, Vicki Myers, Jennifer and her husband, Nicklaus Thomas; grandchildren, Kayla and her husband, Eric Chen, Matthew and his wife, Ann Myers, Daniel, Timothy, Benjamin, Clara, and Luke Myers, and Emily Thomas; great-grandchildren, Caden, William, and Noah Mellor, and Myles Naughton; her siblings, Phyllis O’Sullivan (predeceased Steve O’Sullivan), John Brooks (Joan), and Sharon Dawson (Wally); and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. until funeral services at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 25, at First Presbyterian Church, 96 Main St., Stamford, with Rev. Don Richards officiating. A committal service will follow at Oneonta Plains Cemetery. Friends and family will be welcomed to Oneonta Country Club following the committal service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 96 Main St., Stamford, NY 12167 or St. Paul’s Hospital. Jewish Children’s Hospital.
