Description Senior Exhibition Creator/Designer Pay Rate: $50,000 Annual Salary + Shift: Full Time – Medical, Dental, Life, LTD, PTO, 9 Company Holiday’s, 401k after 1 year of employment. Play an important role in creating exhibits at each of the five venues at Thanksgiving Point and you’ll also have the opportunity to create cool things, like games and large-scale backdrops for big events like the Tulip Festival, Luminaria, and Dino Days. Responsibilities: Act as a leader and role model within the Exhibition Production Department, guiding, collaborating, advising and assisting in all aspects of the exhibition creation process. Demonstrate extraordinary skill, creativity and expertise in all aspects of the exhibition production process. Fabricates display components, complete exhibits, or exhibit assemblies, as assigned, alone or in production team environments, in situations requiring very high levels of fabrication skills, problem-solving ability, mature independent judgment, and understanding of the values and goals of the museum and the assigned project. Manufacture of exhibits, drawing on a wide range of proven skills. Develop ideas for physical interactive experiences that illustrate relevant display concepts and phenomena in safe, engaging and practical ways. In collaboration with exhibition staff, other departments and stakeholders – such as marketing, venue managers, CEO, etc. – work to take initial exhibition ideas through an iterative process of design, construction and testing that culminates in final exhibitions that are safe, attractive and durable. Fabricate and install prototype and finished exhibits using knowledge and skills in construction techniques to achieve museum objectives and achieve stated design goals, budget, and schedule. Comply with museum policies, government regulations, and industry best practices for workplace safety. Clean, repair, and maintain store equipment and tools to ensure they are serviceable and meet safety standards. Perform various duties related to the fabrication and installation of exhibits: minor electronic, electrical, or mechanical work, artifact handling, and computer installation. Skillfully formulate design concepts in CAD programs working from limited or general information provided by members of the design team. Support the department by creating moderately complex mechanical/electrical/electronic designs for subassemblies, assemblies, or system configurations using CAD or manual systems, compiling bills of materials, and assisting in the fabrication of systems. Take responsibility for the quality of the work provided. Review designs and documents before submitting them to the next review level. Work alongside the production team and designers to create 2D and 3D computer models. Assist in ordering, loading and unloading necessary inventory and supplies to ensure timely availability of resources and components for manufacturing and construction. Safely operate powered industrial trucks, such as forklifts, scissor lifts, aerial lifts, and pallet jacks to facilitate the loading and unloading of Museum display components and materials. Develop and expand knowledge and skills in manufacturing by participating in training and professional development opportunities. Share in the overall success of the Exhibitions team, our venues and Thanksgiving Point as a whole. Contribute to the design, interpretation, development and creation of amazing objects, such as large-scale games and backdrops, for large events such as the Tulip Festival, Luminaria and Dino Days. Serves as guardian of exhibition content and story throughout the design process. Assist team members with other exhibition tasks. Other duties are assigned. Embody and support the mission, values and policies of Thanksgiving Point Requirements: 3+ years of experience in a museum environment. Knowledge of and experience with human-centered design or similar methods for developing immersive content for public engagement in a museum or informal educational setting. You have a strong understanding of exhibit manufacturing best practices, design process and safety guidelines. Proven skills in the following manufacturing and engineering techniques: finish carpentry and cabinet making, finishing with paints and other coatings, plastic laminates, and other paper goods, welding and other metalworking processes, CAD/CAM processes including production using CNC machines such as laser cutters, 3D printers Dimensions and router) electronics, microcomputers, sensors, actuators and other motion control devices preferred Excellent communication, collaboration, customer service and professional skills Ability to meet deadlines, work efficiently and teamwork Focuses on delivering the best in class visitor experience through work results through achieving business objectives Personal and organizational.
