The 75th Albany Tulip Festival has been announced

The annual Tulip Festival celebrates 75 years with a weekend packed with live performances, family-friendly activities, a new health stage, and of course, more than 248,000 tulips.

The two-day festival will be held in Washington Park on May 13 and 14, and begins with the Coronation of the Tulip Queen, featuring a performance by the Mendelssohn Club and a procession led by Queen Sam Mills, on May 13. Nominations will be made for this year’s queen. Accepted online until April 24.

Saturday’s musical entertainment will include Troy-based Precious Metals, indie rock and pop artist Karina Rickman and alternative rock band Guster on the main stage and Space Trash, Frank Palangi, Ohzhe and the TV Doctors on stage at Local 518. Sunday’s lineup includes The Age, Eastbound Jesus and a band Pop rockers American Authors perform on the main stage and Caity and the Gallaghers, Glass Pony, Nickopotamus and DJ HollyW8D perform on the Local 518 stage.

Sunday will also include the 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Yoga Festival on the main stage and the 24th annual Best Moms in the Capital Region. Nominations for Outstanding Mothers are open online until April 8.

Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy food trucks, a beer garden, and artisan vendors. Free dance classes, and the KidZone will include pony rides, rock climbing, face painting, games, music and theater performances.

In the weeks leading up to the festival, city gardener Gina Comerford will lead tulip tours of the flower beds in Washington Park. These tours will take place at 10am and 3pm on May 4 and 5, and at 10am and 5pm on May 10-12, weather permitting. Space is limited for these free tours and reservations are required at 518-434-2032.

Additional pre-festival activities include Amy Hepner performing at the Carillon Concert outside Albany City Hall; the annual traditional Dutch street clean-up; and the Tulip Festival Luncheon at The Kenmore on May 12.
