Vines have a way of growing on you

While vines and ground covers are not exactly trees, when you get down to the nitty-gritty of what arboriculture is and what arborists like me are supposed to study, woody-stemmed vines are included.

However, ground cover plants are not like that.

On the other hand, some plants used as ground cover can also be vines that creep up trees or houses, growing some healthy-sized woody stems. Not only that, but many of these plants are usually found near trees, so working with trees also means exposure to terrestrial plants.

As someone with a very long history of working with Big Country trees and seeing them and the conditions they grow in over the years, I have seen a lot of vines and ground covers around the trees. Not only that, but I’ve seen a lot of changes in the plants people use for ground cover and what they want from them.
